With Alien Isolation and Total War, the developers at Creative Assembly have already proven that they know their craft. In cooperation with Sega, the British are now venturing into the shooter genre and are announcing Hyenas, a brightly colored alternative to hardcore titles such as Escape From Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown. Already in the first trailer it becomes clear that Hyenas doesn’t take itself too seriously.

What is Hyenas about?
The first-person shooter takes place in a future in which our planet has long since been destroyed and the rich inhabitants of what was then Earth have fled to Mars. Nevertheless, they still send spaceships to their old homeland, primarily to salvage relics of pop culture so that they can be sold on at high prices.
Meanwhile, the rest of Earth’s inhabitants were left behind. Despite the difficult circumstances, some of them managed to survive. And they’ve been trying to attack and rob the Martian colony’s raiding ships ever since, which is why they’re nicknamed Hyenas. Though the premise may seem bleak at first, creative director Charlie Bewsher emphasizes that Hyenas doesn’t take itself too seriously.

How does Hyenas play?
In the multiplayer shooter, five teams of three compete against each other, try to salvage the loot from the spaceships and escape safely. In addition to human opponents, the player is also faced with traps, security networks and AI enemies. In addition, Hyenas seems much more fast-paced and action-heavy in direct comparison with genre colleagues like Escape From Tarkov.
Gravity is also missing in parts of the map. It can even be switched on and off in individual rooms. This allows players to levitate freely in space. However, if you wish, you can activate special magnetic shoes in order to feel the ground under your feet again.
In a conversation with IGN, the developers also reveal that there will be different characters, which are divided into three main classes:
- Engage: Characters that are primarily focused on fast action and one-on-one combat.
- Evade: These characters are more deliberate and use stealth mechanics.
- Exploit: If you are more interested in supporting your team and hacking various devices, you should choose this class.

In the trailer you can see many of the characters. However, three of them have already been explained in more detail by Creative Assembly:
- The Pro: Equipped with a shotgun, he makes life difficult for his enemies with automatic turrets.
- Commander Wright: This character carries the special Foam Gun, which he can use to set up barricades and platforms to climb.
- Doc Hotfix: A gamer who understands that they are only part of a video game, which is why they should often break the fourth wall with their comments.

When does Hyenas appear? The developers have not yet revealed an exact release date, but some closed alpha tests are to take place in the future, for which you can already register on the official site can register.
