The JRPG lived its golden age in the 90s and the beginning of the following decade, with great classics that have endured in the collective memory long after. They were so influential that it is no wonder that there are more and more indies games that are inspired by them.
It is the case of Crystals (The name read in Spanish sounds a bit strange, yes), a title developed by Dreams Uncorporated and SYCK that is scheduled to reach all platforms throughout 2020. Here you have 22 minutes of gameplay
The protagonist of Crystals is Crisbell, a magician capable of traveling through time thanks to her spells. Its main asset lies in the possibility of alternate between past, present and future to observe how the world is changing and interact with it in this way. Yes it sounds a lot like Chrono Trigger, but in this case it is much more immediate.
In fact, "toggle" may not be the right word, as it is actually we can see all three periods at once
The rest is what we might expect from a JRPG-inspired game from a couple of decades ago. When we leave the city they wait for us turn-based fighting
With this gameplay you can get a good idea of what it will be like Crystals, but there is also a short demo that you can download for free on steam to test it first hand. Notably not the only title of this style on the horizon. We recently told you about Sea of stars, the new Sabotage Studio game that is also defined as a classic JRPG.
