If you find yourself missing the Zack Fair and Partners soundtrack, you might want to check out Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion The mod that brings them all back.
Announced last June and released last month, Crisis Core has received a fairly extensive remake, overhauling many elements from the original PSP game. First off, the visuals are brand new, with modern models, new textures, and fancy lighting, all of which bring it closer to the visual style of Final Fantasy VII Remake. But it’s not just the matching visuals, as all the voice acting has been redone, all of which match the actors in 7 Remake. For some, this might not be such a welcome change, but if you play the game on PC and miss the old voice acting, good news: there’s a mod.
As Siliconera shared, modder Svenchu shared a mod that restores 99% of the in-game cutscenes from the original PSP version of the game. The reason not every cutscene is because FMV cutscenes, fancy pre-rendered ones, haven’t replaced their sound. The remake also adds a new voice-over set, such as random NPCs, and cutscenes that you can access through the game’s DMW system.
Svenchu currently plans to add the original battle lines, as well as the FMV voice, and will also add an option to completely remove the new voice, which will be more like the original PSP game.
Of course, this mod is only available to PC players of the game, so if you’re a console player and hope you enjoy the new voice acting, don’t be bothered by it.
iGamesNews rated Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion 4/5, with Alex Donaldson writing: “Repackaged into one of the sharpest remasters I’ve seen, this is a relatively irresistible package— Flaws and all. Flaws are in many ways, and its well-groomed visage is part of the charm.”
