The new Perfect Dark awakens memories in N64 players with the first trailer
At the Game Awards 2020, Microsoft studio The Initiative showed a trailer for the new Perfect Dark, which you can watch above. The title shouldn’t mean anything to many younger players, while the old hands click their tongues in appreciation.
Anno 2000 war Perfect Dark for fans of the first-person shooter milestone Goldeneye 007 a kind of brother in spirit. Perfect Dark relied on very similar strengths, as the gameplay and controls of the two shooters were very close to one another. And the classic Perfect Dark is now returning in one form or another.
Microsoft has stated in the past that all of their future Xbox games will be released on PC. According to this logic, PC gamers are also allowed to go on a secret mission in the upcoming Perfect Dark as agent Joanna Dark.
What is the new Perfect Dark?
Im official blog post there is first information about the new Perfect Dark. However, the hard facts are very limited. A release date is not yet known. The developers want to share more details soon. At least the agent setting is confirmed:
“With Perfect Dark we want to deliver a secret agent thriller set in a world of the near future.”
The new Perfect Dark is supposed to represent a reboot of the series, as the simple choice of name in the wording of the original from 2000 suggests. The trailer that ends on the roof of the evil Datadyne corporation also suggests this. After all, that’s where the story of Joanna Dark began. And in the developer video there is talk of a “reinvention” of the game:

Apparently, the developers also want to bring the game into the present in terms of gameplay. And that’s a long way from the ’00s original. Check out the original Perfect Dark in our Retro Hall of Fame:

But a curious detail could also provide a hint: At the end, Dark is standing on the roof, while the pyramids can be seen in the distance. Is this a nod to new places to explore? One can at least assume that the developers want to keep the fans in suspense a little longer.
