The Cyberpunk 2077 universe continues to make headlines with this new game. This time the developers are massively going back to basics, which will delight the first fans.
The Cyberpunk 2077 universe still has a lot to offer! As CD Projekt explained, the sequel, internally called Orien, is in the works. Currently, development is still in its early stages as the team has focused on developing The Witcher 4. We will have to wait a few more years to see the first images of this project, but the Polish studio has thought of you to keep you waiting. While we wait for Cyberpunk 2, a new game that returns to the origins of this universe has just been announced.
A new game based on Cyberpunk 2077
Are you ready to explore the dark streets of Night City once again? CD Projekt and publisher Go on Board have just unveiled their new board game set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. Having already returned to the origins of RPGs adapted from The Witcher such as Path of Destiny, this time they return for another project that is still in development. The latter is simply called “Cyberpunk 2077: The Board Game”. Small clarification: It has no connection to “Gangs of Night City,” which was released in 2023. Information on this roleplaying game is currently limited as we don’t know the rules yet. However, we know that we will find iconic characters from Night City and the gameplay is described as immersive and dynamic.
A trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 The Board Game has already been posted online, in which we meet some of its characters, including V, who are interrupted in a mission. A figure of the latter is even offered to those who want to follow this project and invest financially in it. You can even play with it. “V and his Mantis Blades begin the game with a different weapon, more deadly in close combat, represented by the 2 unique action cards. This exclusive gift means more replayability to the game and an additional way to personalize your experience
A return to basics
Since the two partners have been particularly generous for the role-playing game The Witcher, the rewards are likely to be great when pre-orders open. CD Projekt will actually offer different levels and once each one is reached, those who participated in the development will receive more and more pre-order bonuses. In the case of The Witcher, for example, the studio had added a whole range of figures modeled after the games’ iconic characters. We can therefore expect the same for Cyberpunk 2077: The Board Game. As with the adaptation with Geralt, this game should be translated into French, but we are waiting for confirmation when pre-orders begin.
In case you didn’t know, Cyberpunk 2077’s universe is directly tied to board games. The reason is very simple: the CD Projekt software is an adaptation of the role-playing game Cyberpunk 2020, which was created in 1990 and has been the subject of numerous new editions. At this time, the Night City universe already existed: technology existed alongside gangs, militias, and corporations. You could already play several classes including: Nomad, Netrunner or Rockerboy. This new Go on Board game may once again draw inspiration from this work in its new production.
