The legendary multiplayer game of Cyberpunk 2077 may be several years away, but this does not mean that CD Projekt Red has not yet drawn the outline.
You will completely forget that a certain team in CD Projekt Red is working Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer game. This indie game has only been mentioned once or twice, and will not be released soon.
Cyberpunk 2077 has gone through everything in the past few months, from multiple delays to launch disasters. It is completely understandable for everyone to think about ambitious RPGs.
We know very little about multiplayer games in the development of Cyberpunk 2077, but because of the new data mining technology, we may at least have the broad idea of the CD Projekt Red project. The .exe file of the main game was analyzed to reveal many curious references to multiplayer games.
According to DSOGaming, the executable file seems to mainly contain references to two game modes: one standard Deathmatch, and the other called Heist. DSOGaming said the looters seem to be similar to existing single-player missions.
Some other functions can also announce the player’s level, ready status, countdown timer, match time, spawn time and lobby.
The following are some undiscovered code strings:
- MP.Heist.DebugMessageNameChanged
- MP.Heist.MessagePlayerReady
- MP.Heist.SetPlayerCharacterClass (may imply that multiplayer games focus on a stricter character class selection system)
- ++%s joined the robbery
- —%S left the robbery
- Role.Cpo_Muppet_Solo
- Character.Cpo_Muppet_Assassin
- Character.Cpo_Muppet_Netrunner
- Character.Cpo_Muppet_Techie
- Lobby
- cpo_heist_started
- Character.Cpo_Muppet_Default
- character.
- Role.Cpo_Default_Player
Interestingly, data mining also shows reliance on P2P connections and host authorization, although as the site points out, this may only be used for internal testing, and the final game may make good use of the dedicated server format.
All of this is pretty vague and does not tell us what you actually did in a multiplayer robbery, but the idea is really interesting. Given the similarities between “Cyberpunk 2077” and “Grand Theft Auto”, it is entirely possible for CDPR to create its own version of the famous robber of “Grand Theft Auto Online”. Of course, this kind of heist may be just a completely different model, not necessarily as complicated as the online heist in Grand Theft Auto, but this idea is very interesting.
