Game news Cyberpunk 2077: Nearly $2 million to pay due to disastrous launch
Remember: in December 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 caused a huge chill in the video game space, one of the saltiest for many gamers. Despite the constant delays, CD Projekt’s FPS was released in a pitiful state, bordering on an industrial disaster on PS4 and Xbox One: today the studio continues to fix the broken pots.
Back to a bad buzz
Despite the great anticipation of a monstrous community – and quite legitimate given CD Projekt had previously spawned the fantastic The Witcher trilogy – Cyberpunk 2077 proved a terrible disappointment upon release. The problem was mostly technical as the game suffered from countless bugs, latencies and many issues that made the experience unplayable at times. The title’s condition was even worse on PS4 and Xbox, where Cyberpunk 2077 was the laughingstock of the internet, prompting thousands to opt for a refund.
Two years later, the Cyberpunk FPS was frankly repaired with the sweat of the developers who had a lot of catching up to do:
Shooting is corrected, yes, but The Polish company was sued by its investors in December 2020 during the exit. Particularly shocked by the final product offered for sale, they accused CD Projekt of having created a game that is “virtually unplayable on current generation Xbox or Playstation systems due to a large number of bugs”. They claimed the studio’s statements were misleading and therefore called for justice.
An expensive judgement
This process continues and It was a California judge who approved CD Projekt to pay its investors $1.85 million in settlement. A hefty fine, which we had already heard about, since the dispute became public in December 2021 and the amount of money already got the ink flowing.
If the final verdict isn’t out yet – it should be within a few months – CD Projekt is still suffering from that disastrous start that caused it so much damage. That didn’t stop it from selling over twenty million Cyberpunk 2077s.
