Cyberpunk 2077 just received a huge update with patch 1.5, for which the players had to download a lot of content. In view of the many new content and improvements, however, it was worth it, as our new test of the game shows.
To the surprise of many players, the next download of a patch, several gigabytes in size, which has not yet been officially announced or documented, has been pending since February 19th. At its core, this is a hotfix that fixes bugs, but it also brings a new option and a new graphics preset, as well as improvements in performance according to user reports.
What does the hotfix bring?
Since the patch has not yet been officially announced, there are no suitable patch notes. However, CD Projekt Red has stated to us that primarily a number of unspecified things have been repaired, that didn’t work as expected
.
It is still unknown whether this also affects the start problems that sometimes occur. We have already collected possible solutions to these difficulties for you:

In addition, the update improve performance. Appropriate reports from players are at least on the official forums to find.
Neue Raytracing-Option
Two things are added to the options: the ability to turn local shadow casting on and off via ray tracing and a third ray tracing preset. Previously only stood Raytracing Mittel and Raytracing Ultra to choose, now there is also the option Raytracing Niedrig.
If the new raytracing option is active, the shadows cast by lamps and similar local light sources are also calculated by raytracing. If you switch off the option, this only applies to global shadows, which are caused by sunlight, for example, as before patch 1.5.
Being able to disable local raytracing shadows could be a welcome opportunity for some players to improve their game’s performance. Because after patch 1.5 with activated ray tracing, Cyberpunk is even more hardware hungry than before, even if the performance without ray tracing has improved:

Patch 1.5 is both a blessing and a curse for performance
How much do I have to download?
The size of the download probably depends on the platform used. Steam users report of that, about 10 gigabytes of new files to have to download. In the Epic Game Store, the patch size of 11 gigabytes is probably in the same range as on Steam.
Our colleagues from computer base had to download more than 60 gigabytes via GOG, while we only have one here Download size of 5.6 gigabytes had to lift. A bug that caused the patch to be so large was probably fixed recently. In the meantime, players are reporting that they too only have to download just under 6 gigabytes with GOG Galaxy.
With a volume of between five and eleven gigabytes, the patch for a hotfix is still large. However, it is to be welcomed that patch 1.5 quickly fixed bugs and that the new ray tracing display of local shadows can now be switched on and off if desired.
Have you already had experience with the new hotfix, both in terms of download size and in terms of performance and general gaming experience? Let us know in the comments!
