The upcoming sci-fi role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 will have many advanced features to offer, but the guys from CD Projekt RED are still avoiding virtual reality. Why actually?

Virtual Reality has been a trendy topic in the games sector for several years, but has not yet been able to assert itself completely. There are high hopes for the upcoming release of Half-Life: Alyx, but in the end it is precisely this niche existence that keeps CD project RED from investing in VR, for example at Cyberpunk 2077.

In an interview with OnMSFT John Mamais has now commented and justified why the developer studio is foregoing any VR features in the role-playing game hope: "We tried VR. We are also thinking about VR, but we are not doing anything with VR for the time being. We do have VR -Dev kits and some things actually work in VR, but I don't think it's really a profitable thing yet. You haven't really been able to make a lot of money with VR so far, it's more of a very experimental niche existence, "said Mamais.

He is not even averse to the topic: "I would like to do it because I like VR, but we will not do anything with it for the time being."

Incidentally, he also takes up a possible switch port of Cyberpunk 2077 in the same interview, after The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has made the jump to the Nintendo console. In the case of the upcoming sci-fi blockbuster, the chances are not bad that the title cannot even run properly on the platform. However, he admits that this was exactly what was thought in the case of The Witcher 3 – and in the end you were taught otherwise.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on September 17th, 2020 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
