Cyberpunk 2077: That’s why the last-gen versions are so sobering

Cyberpunk, lastgen, sobering, versions

The console kid has already fallen into the well and CD Projekt RED has lost a lot of reputation after the messed up console launch of Cyberpunk 2077, but apparently they are now trying to achieve transparency.

With the release of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED laid quite an egg, at least when it comes to owners of older PS4 and Xbox One consoles. While the PC version does relatively well and the game runs at least properly on the new consoles, albeit plagued by many minor bugs, it is almost unplayable on the older PS4 and Xbox One models.

CDPR’s approach, for example not showing gameplay on the old consoles in advance, caused a lot of annoyance. In the meantime, CDPR has publicly apologized for the state of the game, but is apparently anxious to ensure more transparency. This becomes clear with the help of one Transcripts from yesterday’s conference call during an extraordinary board meeting, in which the management floor around Adam Kiciński asks a whole series of questions about the release of the game, the causes of the messed up console version and the resulting consequences.

In it, the developers admit, among other things, that the focus was too much on PC and next-gen consoles and not enough time was spent considering the current-gen consoles. It is confirmed again that further patches will be released in December, followed by further updates in January and February. Although one shouldn’t expect the game to reach the level of the next-gen, it should at least be playable, stable and without glitches and crashes.

It is also confirmed that although large parts of the workforce are now on vacation, a dedicated team is still working on fixing bugs and performance problems. The next-gen version is still in progress. A roadmap for the upcoming planning is to be published in the first quarter of 2021. Other productions such as Gwent, Witcher-Mobile and any future titles should not be affected by the problems with Cyberpunk 2077.

If you want, you can get the Transcript of the conference call (in English) on the CDP website read through. After all, it’s an eight-page document with lots of questions and answers. One thing is certain: CD Projekt RED will have a lot of work to do to smooth things over and to reconcile disappointed players. We are curious to see if that succeeds – it would indeed be a shame about the great game content.
