Two years have passed since that fateful launch at the headquarters of CD Projekt Red. The Polish developer had heated the environment to unusual extremes in the industry, since Cyberpunk 2077 had established itself not only as the ultimate RPGbut as the biggest launch in history.
Expectations were through the roof and the blow against reality was championship. Crunch, an absolutely regrettable performance on consoles and the withdrawal of the game from digital stores was a wound that has left a very visible scar. In this time, the title has healed its wounds, has recomposed itself and has shown signs of good health with its arrival at the next-gen.
I missed the game at the time, despite the fact that I had it nailed between my eyebrows, but I was more attentive than ever to everything that surrounded the project. I wanted to avoid a bad experience playing on PS4 and now I have decided to make the jump to PS5. Night City is already installed on my console so that it stays in the main menu for a few tens of hours.
welcome to the future
It is true that I have made some other content about the game during these years, but it is no less true that I have not seen extensive gameplay. I have no idea what the ending is, how exactly do you start in the futuristic city and what exactly are the possibilities offered by its streets. My only premise before starting to play has been to find out as much as possible about the world of Cyberpunk 2077.
And when I say world I mean its history, the events that have led to a country called the new united states
It is very good to have a vision of the future, to want to prosper and for humanity to reach its culmination, but to give the keys to paradise to people like Elon Musk not the best of ideas. Like any good dystopia, Night City is governed from top to bottom by mega-corporations that I’m getting into little by little, but I think Arasaka, Trauma Team and Militech take the lead. I precisely want to enroll in the first of them.
My character, my particular V, is going to be someone without scruples. A Corpo whose unwavering motto is that “there are only those who win and those who lose“. I want to be from the first group, I have not come to this neon party to rub shoulders with the mob; I will trample them if necessary. There will be no consideration for those who do not point upwards, just as a fixer thinks.
Saburo Arasaka is precisely at the top, that tycoon who clings to the position with the same force that dominates the company. It is time to activate my master plan and let myself be seduced by the pleasures of Cyberpunk 2077.
From glory to mud
I start in Arasaka, in the counterintelligence team and I’ve already been warned that they’re going to put me on the street. Better, so they give me a meaningful reason to completely destroy them. I have less reason to recreate creating my V, despite the fact that the game editor is more than complete. I have many options, but it is one Too bad the game is in first person and go to see me on rare occasions. All in all, the care I put into it to make it look like me is important, even though I don’t have pupils with technological mapping.
How should I distribute the attribute points? Well, you h ave to assume that I will be stealthy, I will sabotage, I will hack and I will avoid direct confrontations. My thing will be to win through the word and getting all the juice out of the technology that I have at hand. Let’s not fool ourselves, if I have to shoot or attack with a katana I will, but it will not be my main way of dealing with conflicts.
Consequently, seven points are distributed to Intelligence, Technical Ability and Resilience and I don’t take away from the others because the game won’t let me. All ready to jump into action and I find that I am in one of the bathrooms of the Arasaka Tower with an obvious withdrawal problem. I don’t know what kind of drug I’m putting into my body, but Jackie Welles won’t stop talking to me on the inside line. I’ve seen him in all the trailers and I understand that he’s a partner you have in any past you choose.
Something big has gone down with Frankfurt regarding Arasaka and everyone is talking about it, but I hardly even know about it. I am absolutely blown away by every corner, every nook, every tiny pixel I see. It’s amazing how the game looks, not so much graphically – but also – but in the artistic design of everything. It does not matter if it is a wall, elevator or meeting room, a futuristic atmosphere is breathed. And that I am in very similar offices between stays.
I’m so engrossed that I stay inside the elevator watching a documentary about old Arasaka and his life. I don’t know what the life expectancy is in the city, let alone with Trauma Team involved, but the guy is over 150 years old; crazy. Jenkins, my superior, waits and sends me directly to the slaughterhouse. He served as a guinea pig in his plan against Abernathy, a boss who botched his promotion. My homework? Kill her and he doesn’t stain his hands.
I rub my eyes
The EV ride to Lizzie’s is amazing, it’s the dream of anyone who wants to live in Blade Runner. Night City is a true fantasy, it fulfills from top to bottom all that a good cyberpunk world should have and the love of CD Projekt RED is noticeable for miles. As if that were not enough, the disco is not far behind.
How is it possible that there is so much creativity, a such a wide variety of designs in such a confined space? Seriously, I don’t even walk fast, I go at a snail’s pace talking to whoever I can, noticing what they’re doing, appreciating the posters on the walls. So far Johnny Silverhand hasn’t turned up, but I’ve already seen in a file that Keanu Reeves I messed it up quite a few decades ago. I tell him the whole plan, he is my trusted man and surely the only one who can cover my back.
Shortly after, between shots, some Arasaka cocoons come to touch their noses. Somebody’s out there, I don’t know who, but God knows I’m going to kick Jenkins’s teeth the next time I see him. He and Abernathy win this time, they’ve fleeced me and now I’m a weakling, but I’m not going to stop until I annihilate them to be the head of the company.
To all this, with the anthology I have signed up a series of contacts and places that I think will be good to take into account for the future:
- Torre Arasaka and the company in general, I plan to stick their ego down their throats.
- Viktor, quacks of Night City. Cyber enhancements don’t make themselves.
- Afterlifea place where I want to end up having a statue in my honor.
- Muammar Reyesthe person who will give me the car I need for every occasion.
These are the rules that I have set for myself and the world is presented to me. I have played very little Cyberpunk 2077, but now that idea that persisted in my brain is crystal clear: this game aims to be a treasure that I will not forget for a long time. And that Phantom Liberty is just around the corner and I haven’t seen Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
