If there was a country in the past that regularly drew attention to itself with even stronger age rating guidelines than Germany, it was Australia. There, the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 has been extensively examined.

In Germany, the situation regarding game indexing or necessary cuts compared to international game versions has eased noticeably in recent years. While the BPjM is much rarer in this country, Australia often remains a hot spot for developers and publishers. It was there that the upcoming potential sci-fi RPG hit Cyberpunk 2077 was put under the microscope.
The good news: According to a report by English-speaking colleagues from GameSpot is the latest work from CD Projekt RED, even in down under without cuts – and thus without restrictions compared to the worldwide, international game version – passed the test. According to Kuba Kutrzuba from the studio, the hope of the Witcher makers received the age rating 18+ in Australia.

Such a classification was particularly in question in Australia, among other things because there are depictions of sexual violence and drugs in Cyberpunk 2077; Both are viewed rather critically down under and have already been doomed to one or the other title. Not so in this case!
"Getting an age rating in Australia was an important milestone on the way to the September release," Kutrzuba admits. "We are creating an adult title for adult players, so we expected the rating to be R18 +. We didn't have to make any changes and Australian players could enjoy the full cyberpunk experience."
While the Australian authority is considered one of the strictest around the world, Cyberpunk 2077 has already received age ratings in most other regions from the age of 18.
