Cyberpunk 2077 Looks like it’s doing well, as the game’s player count on Steam has grown rapidly with the release of Cyberpunk Edgerunners.
As we probably all know by now, Cyberpunk 2077 didn’t launch in stunning shape. Whether it was a glitch, or the current version of the game was delayed a lot, things didn’t really develop until this year when the game actually saw a lot of major fixes, and the current version was actually released. Despite all the issues, Cyberpunk has a healthy 105,445 concurrent players (via SteamDB) at the time of writing. Why? Through the power of anime, of course.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners, CD Projekt’s anime spin-off from everyone’s favorite Studio Trigger, launched last week to rave reviews so far. And it’s clear fans have a cyberpunk craze, as the average player count has been rising since the anime’s release, peaking at 122,376 players yesterday (September 24), which, as PCGamesN pointed out, is higher than The Witcher 3’s. Steam’s all-time peak is 103,329.
Of course, that’s apparently partly due to CD Projekt having actually made the game playable since its rather disastrous launch, but apparently the anime has plenty of players wanting to get back into the game. The renewed interest in gaming makes it clear that Edgerunners are a great example of animation pairings. And the fact that the game just received patch 1.6, which adds some content that ties it into the anime series.
CD Projekt also briefly teased the game’s first major expansion, Phantom Freedom, which will see the return of Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand.
