who in Cyberpunk 2077 cruising through Night City and being attacked in the process has probably wished they could shoot from the vehicle outside of scripted missions. A new mod makes this dream come true and almost casually turns the entire search system inside out.
We have played it for you and give you an insight into what exactly the mod changes and how it affects the gameplay. If you then feel like trying it out yourself, we will of course explain to you how you can install it in just a few simple steps.
You can read in our detailed test update how the role-playing game from CD Projekt has played since the big patch 1.5 and apart from mods:
Cyberpunk 2077 1.5 im Test:
Roleplaying has never felt so good
This is what the vehicle combat mod offers
This is in it: According to Scissors, the mod reactivates the developer’s hidden code, making it possible to use ranged and melee weapons as well as inhalers and the like at any time while driving. An exception are grenades and projectile launchers and a few sports cars whose side windows could not be opened.
But so that the whole thing is really fun and regularly proves useful, the search system has also been fundamentally revised. do you cause discord, the controlling faction of the respective district intervenes.
Depending on the wanted level and area Several vehicles are now following you and their inmates shoot like crazy. In addition, thanks to a new ability, they can dynamically call in reinforcements, which can be identified and defeated using a progress bar above the respective opponent.
If you have accumulated four stars, things get really serious: Then the special police unit MaxTac takes over the pursuit and comes after you with five new enemy types, increased values and dangerous abilities. One of them is rapid life point regeneration, which makes them correspondingly difficult to defeat.
How does that feel in game?
The Mod fits in well with the actual gameplay and can also be individually configured via the main menu. It’s almost reminiscent of GTA when you take a corner too enthusiastically, “accidentally” hit a few gang members and then get chased by their angry friends.
Mouse and keyboard recommended instead of controller: You draw your weapon with the respective number key (1-3) and then swing or fire as usual. The combat feels good and seems like it was always part of the design. At least as far as you use a keyboard, because on the gamepad you can accelerate and attack inseparably.
In general, you can tell that the mod is still quite new: The lack of animations in photo mode or when reloading is easily bearable, but what’s more disturbing is how often our captors get stuck on walls or objects.
Improvement in sight: The problem didn’t exist in our save game shortly before the end of the story, but some users report a bug in which the police attack them outside of V’s apartment for no reason. Since the players have already discovered the cause of this in the mod’s code and reported it in the comments on Nexus, we assume that such teething problems can be repaired quickly.

How to install the mod
You can check out the “Vehicle Combat” mod Download for free on Nexusmods, but requires an equally free user account on the site. Furthermore, the modification builds on the preliminary work of three others, which you must also install:
You simply throw the unzipped files into your Cyberpunk folder and just make sure that the folder structure matches. In other words, don’t copy the folder named “redscript” into it, but its contents with the subfolders “r6” and “engine”, which are also in the main folder of the game. If something is to be overwritten, you confirm this.
Important: On the other hand, if you want to use the comfortable Mod Manager Vortex, which comes from the creators of the Nexusmods site themselves, you first have to teach it how to deal with cyberpunk. You simply load it download the relevant file and in Vortex’s “Extensions” tab, drag it to the appropriate box at the bottom right.
You will then find Cyberpunk 2077 as normal in the games tab and can do it with a Click on the plus add to the “managed” titles. Now the mods can be added directly to the Mod Manager via the corresponding button in the download area of the website and (de)activated at any time.
