There’s even better news: According to the official Splatoon 3 website, you’ll also be rewarded for saving data.
You can save data once per Nintendo Account transfer by launching Splatoon 3 or by entering the lobby while connected to the internet. To transfer and save data from Splatoon 2, the same user account must be used on the same system.
If you have save data from Splatoon 2 on your Switch, you can transfer a portion of it to Splatoon 3, and transferring the data will give you three Gold Sheldon licenses that you can use in exchange for your main weapon, Regardless of player level.
You can also join Anarchy Battles right from the start of the game, regardless of player level. Based on your rank in Splatoon 2, you will start the game with a higher rank and be matched with players of similar skill level in Splatoon 2.
On Wednesday, August 10th, Nintendo hosted a Splatoon 3-specific Nintendo Direct, where it provided all kinds of information about the game.
The livestream discusses the new Story Mode, where you’ll discover the secrets of Alterna, Fuzzy Ooze, and how it ties into the title’s theme. As Agent 3, the newest addition to the new Squidbeak Splatoon, you’ll battle the Octarian army. You’ll venture out with your Smallfry buddies through multiple stages, each full of twists and turns.
The game will feature improved Turf Wars gameplay and return to the Salmon Run mode, which allows up to four players to work together and collect energy eggs from salmon. This iteration of Salmon Run also features Boss Salmonids fighting alongside Cohozuna, a new King Salmonid super giant salmon.
You can look forward to new and returning battle stages, with a total of 12 stages waiting for you at launch, with more to come through free updates after launch.
Splatfests are also back, along with a new mode called Tableturf Battle, a 1-v-1 competitive card battle spinoff of Turf War with over 150 cards to collect.
There are also new Splatlands-specific weapons, such as the bow Tri-Stringer that can fire in three directions at once and the Splatana Wiper that fires ink blades, and all major weapon types from previous Splatoon games are available from the start. The new special Weapons include Tacticooler, Wave Breaker and Reefslider. Some familiar special weapons from the Splatoon series, such as Tenta Missiles, Inkjet, Ink Storm, Ultra Stamp and Booyah Bomb, will return.
New amiibo are also coming this holiday season. Inkling, Octoling and Smallfry will have separate amiibo figures for $15.99 each. Additionally, some Splatoon 2 amiibo figures will be relaunching soon, including the Callie & Marie 2-Pack and Pearl & Marina 2-Pack, priced at $24.99 each.
After the game goes live, an in- game season catalog will be distributed free of charge every three months for two years. Other weapons will also be included at about the same time as each game catalog. Additionally, X Battle and League Battle are planned for future updates. X Battle Unlocked after reaching a very high level in Anarchy Battle. In League Battle, players can participate in team matches every two hours based on their Anarchy Battle results. There will be large-scale paid DLC in the future, and Nintendo will share more details in the future.
Splatoon will release in retail form on September 9th through the eShop and My Nintendo Store on Nintendo Switch. Earn double My Nintendo Store Nintendo Gold Points if you pre-order or purchase the game from the Nintendo eShop or My Nintendo Store until September 30th.
Additionally, on August 26, a special edition Splatoon 3-themed Nintendo Switch – OLED mockup system will be available in stores for an MSRP of $359.99.
