The world's largest game fair E3 is not taking place this year due to the corona pandemic. The official website announces that announcements and game launches should instead take place online. The period is given as June 2020, but there is no concrete information yet. According to the organizer ESA, the E3 next year then "redesigned" from June 15-17, 2021 take place (according to Gamesindustry).
IGN plans "Summer of Gaming" as an alternative
To fill the gap, IGN announced that it would launch its own game event. Some support this summer of gaming well-known developers and publishers, including:
- 2K
- Square Enix
- Bandai Namco
- Amazon
- Google Stadia
- Devolver digital
- THQ Nordic
In June 2020 there will be online presentations by publishers and interviews with developers. The viewers should be actively involved: According to the IGN, there is the possibility of taking part in votes and reacting to videos. Specific updates on the event are expected to be published in the coming weeks.
What happens to the E3?
It is still unclear whether the IGN event will collide with the announced online presence of E3. However, since the cancellation about three weeks ago, there has been no news about how the program of the fair should be implemented digitally. Bethesda already completely canceled the participation for this year – also for a virtual event.
