DAZN

Sports streaming service DAZN has outsmarted competitor Sky again – because the pay-TV provider does not get more than highlight clips for the women’s Bundesliga.

Sport1 will show some games in the women's Bundesliga from the 2023/24 season on free TV - the league can only be seen live in full on DAZN and MagentaTV.

  • DAZN prevailed against Sky in the award of TV rights.
  • In addition to MagentaTV, DAZN will also be showing the entire women’s Bundesliga live from the 2023/24 season.
  • Selected games come to Sport1 on free TV, Sky only remain highlight summaries.

The women’s Bundesliga is coming to DAZN: From the 2023/24 season, the sports streaming service will be able to show the competition, which is initially advertised as an individual license, live and will share the live rights for all games with Telekom. The latter shows the league via its entertainment service MagentaTV.

Sky can therefore not really live up to its self-proclaimed role as an ambassador for women’s football – the pay-TV provider was only able to secure the rights to broadcast highlight clips. After all, there will be one game per game day on Sport1 on free TV.

DAZN is increasingly snatching live football from Sky

In recent years, DAZN has grabbed more and more live rights for important football competitions: Where Sky was able to offer at least half of the Champions League a few years ago, all games in the European premier league are now available on DAZN with handpicked exceptions on Prime Video landed.

Sky is also losing ground with regard to the Bundesliga rights: Although the pay-TV provider still shows the majority of live matches with the Bundesliga Saturday, DAZN has meanwhile been able to secure the Sunday games of the German upper house in addition to the Friday game .

Also interesting…

With the women’s Bundesliga, the streaming service, which almost doubled its prices for TV rights in the first quarter of 2022 due to its big game hunt, is setting another scent mark in the football sector.

Incidentally, DAZN has currently reduced the fee for its annual subscription again. You can read how you can stream cheaper for a whole two years in the linked Netzwelt article.
