news culture DC Comics: The New Expanded Universe being rejected by fans targeting Netflix
Zack Snyder’s DCU was set to become the MCU’s major competitor, but it was clear that plans didn’t go as planned. So much so that DC Comics and Warner Bros. have decided to start on the right foot by sweeping the past clean. Which is inevitably not to the liking of many fans.
Goodbye DCU, hello DCU 2.0
The so-called DC Extended Universe that launched with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel had big plans: to create a great cinematic universe, leveraging some of its greatest franchises and crossing swords with Marvel and its groundbreaking MCU. Oh, Disney managed its punch a little better (to say the least) to the point where DC Comics and Warner Bros. were pushed to an ultimatum: find new people to start rebuilding it all.
These people are James Gunn (the director of The Suicide Squad, but also Guardians of the Galaxy at Marvel) and Peter Saffron, which must therefore establish a new expanded universe for the next ten years. But this project also requires the departure of certain characters and projects: Henry Cavill has left his role as Superman, Dwayne Johnson is no longer Black Adam and Wonder Woman 3 has simply been cancelled.
Also referred to as the Snyder verse, it is currently in its last state and won’t be for much longer. What provokes the anger of many fans …
For a Snyder verse on Netflix
While the DCU wasn’t very successful, it still built a small community of solid fans who are very committed to Zack Snyder’s vision. So much so that when a new expanded universe was announced, You have created a new hashtag on social networks: #SellSnyderVerseToNetflix or #VendezLeSnyderVerseÀNetflix.
The message is clear: To keep the DCU as we know it, fans are praying that Warner Bros will sign a deal with Netflix to bring it exclusively to the VOD platform. That way, Peter Safran and James Gunn could develop their new expanded universe on their side (that is, in cinemas), while the famous Snyder-verse could continue to develop on Netflix.
A very popular hashtag showing public enthusiasm: We remind you that the latter can have a real impact, since it is thanks to its push on the Internet that the long version of the Justice League film edited by Zack Snyder saw the light of day, years after the release of the original feature film. We will see.
