Dead Island 2 had been quiet for a long time from the official side, but now there seems to be news – shortly after a renowned leaker spoke up.
A few days ago, the well-known leaker Tom Henderson drew attention again, after all, he announced that the long-awaited Dead Island 2 could possibly be released in the current year 2022. A few days later, the official site also spoke up to a certain extent.
What is meant in this case is the Embracer Group, to which publisher Deep Silver belongs. On the occasion of the announcement of current business figures, it was confirmed in a Q&A session, so to speak, that Dead Island 2 is still in development. However, Henderson’s best-case scenario does not seem to be confirmed, as a release in 2022 is unlikely. According to the current planning status, the sequel, which is not entirely named, is to be released in the next financial year, which starts in March 2023.
Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors was a bit cryptic when asked about Dead Island 2; it is difficult for him to discuss the game because it “was not announced as such by the publisher”. Most recently, the sequel, which was originally confirmed in 2014, had disappeared from the scene for years, which is why Wingefors believes that another official presentation is only due.
He then added, “But we have an unannounced AAA title – what you think is Dead Island 2. It’s hard for me to comment further on that, but I’m pretty excited about unannounced titles.” The whole thing was accompanied by a bit of laughter and knowing grins.
Most recently, Wingefors confirmed in 2019 that the title, which had development problems, was still in the works. In the meantime, the Dambuster Studio is said to be responsible for the completion; this had recently drawn attention to itself with Homefront: The Revolution.
