Actually, topics like indexing should no longer be of great relevance in 2024. But it seems that child protection is once again messing things up, specifically in the case of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Because, as has been officially confirmed, German players will have to do without the new edition.
Time for a little history lesson: The first Dead Rising was originally released in September 2006 and ended up on the confiscation list in Germany. This meant that the game was not allowed to be sold. It is still on the index today, meaning it cannot be advertised or publicly displayed in stores. It’s basically a commercial death sentence.

Now, of course, fans were concerned when the new edition with the catchy name Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster was scheduled for September 18, 2024. Because even though the rules for indexing are now much more generous, exceptions prove the rule.
Thanks to official statements from Capcom, we now have sad certainty: a release of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster in Germany is not possible and not planned. From the sounds of it, the company also does not plan to enter into talks with the USk and perhaps still get an age rating of 18 and over. Plaion took this route in the case of Dead Island 2 and was rewarded with extremely good sales figures.
The reason for the confiscation and indexing of Dead Rising is as simple as it is unnecessary: the depiction of violence. Zombies are too close to real people and the sometimes very drastic depiction of the undead killing act has caused problems in many games in the past. Is that still necessary in 2024? It’s questionable.
