A remake of the classic sci-fi horror game Dead Space is just around the corner. So, of course, Motive Studio prepared us a shiny new launch trailer to get us all the more excited about the game.

Titled “Humanity Ends Here,” the trailer shows Isaac in action aboard the USG Ishimura, and the ship looks better than ever. More importantly, though, the trailer graciously gives us glimpses of iconic scenes from the original game, detailing just how faithful this remake is.

Motive Studio launches alongside a new entry in the Inside Dead Space blog series, clearly showing how important this week’s stories are. Whether it’s the familiar scene in the trailer, or what the team shared in the blog post; it’s clear that the story is central to the remake.

Lead level designer Catherine Stewart (Catherine Stewart) shared: “All departments approach it with the same philosophy. If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. For the most part, it’s all about making the game the way it is.” The great beats stay the same, and improving the ones that are questionable, we think we can do better. Walking that line is often difficult, but I think we strike a good balance.”

Essentially, the team seems to have done everything in its power to ensure that the original game’s story remains intact, and has approached the topic with “surgical precision.” On the other hand, however, creative director Roman Campos-Oriola explained what’s new in the Dead Space story.

“There’s a lot of stories told in the Dead Space universe, the later games, the books, the comics, the movies… so what we’re trying to do with this game is add more lore, or to the lore, with the wider universe There’s better continuity.”

Campos-Oriola continued, “We also gave some secondary characters more screen time, agency, and overall personality. Some were very important, like Nicole and Mercer. But even the likes of Jacob Temple and Elizabeth Cross Characters, who in the original game only really showed up in the audio logs, now actually have some screen time, and they can play a character.”

All in all, Dead Space Remake looks promising. You will be able to play it when it starts January 27, 2023On PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S.
