Valve wants to step up its game as a developer again and could now return to the shooter genre after its previous successes with Half-Life. With Deadlock a potential new title has now been leaked.

Today, Valve is best known for its PC platform Steam and its portable hardware Steam Deck, but many years ago the company’s focus was on developing video games. Shooter fans are of course most familiar with Half-Life; the franchise is considered one of the best of all time in the genre. Now Valve could actually return to the shooter genre – albeit in a new way.

Accordingly, Valve is said to be working on a new title called Deadlock, details of which have now been leaked online. The game, which is said to have been known internally as Neon Prime and Citadel during development, will therefore be a third-person hero shooter that is more likely to take on competitors such as Overwatch 2 or Marvel Rivals.

According to Gabe Follower on Twitter, Deadlock is played in 6-vs-6 games, with different heroes to choose from. There is a large map with four lanes, which again have tower defense mechanics; In these lanes you have to attack, use different items and of course use different skills.

The leaker also adds that Deadlock uses a fantasy setting overall, which is mixed with some steampunk influences. In short: There are magicians as well as strange creatures and robots. There will also be options for fast travel in the title via a rail system similar to BioShock: Infinite. Finally, Gabe Follower describes the supposed new Valve project as a mix and combination of Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, Overwatch, Valorant, Smite and Orcs Must Die.

It remains to be seen whether Deadlock will actually be released in this form as a third-person shooter. In any case, an official confirmation of the game from Valve is still pending. We will keep you updated on further developments!
