It wasn’t hard to deny that Valve was developing a game called Deadlock before, but now that the name has been trademarked, it’s even harder to deny.
All of you Valve fans probably already know about its next game, which is currently expected to be a steampunk fantasy hero shooter called Deadlock. Now you may have also seen the leaks showing that the game is not yet finished, but it also gave everyone a look at its strong character designs. The game is said to be in testing at the moment, but Valve has yet to actually confirm its existence. Well, not publicly confirmed, anyway, as it recently filed a trademark for the game’s name (spotted by Gabe Follower, thanks to PC Gamer).

The trademark was filed earlier this week on May 30th and is intended to cover a number of categories, such as “Entertainment services… providing online video games; providing online entertainment, namely online computer games; entertainment services, namely providing online computer games and online video games,” as well as “competitions related to video games” and “video game education,” so it sounds like Valve may have some esports plans for its upcoming shooter.

Thanks to leaks over the past few weeks, we have a good idea of how the game will play. Currently, it’s a 6v6 PvP game, with matches taking place on a large map with four lanes, and a variety of skills and items available. There will also be tower defense mechanics, and it seems that there will be a little bit of BioShock Infinite in the game, as the game will allow players to quickly travel across floating tracks. Obviously, since everything we know about Deadlock has come from leaks, there’s no word on a release date just yet, but with the non-E3 season starting next week, there’s a good chance we’ll see something by then.
