With a tweet, the PC Game Pass Twitter account has caused a lot of confusion – and also a glimmer of hope. Should Death Stranding really be coming to Game Pass?
Update:
It’s official now: Microsoft has confirmed that Death Stranding will be coming to Game Pass for PC next week, more precisely on August 23rd at 2:00 a.m. However, it is the original version and not the Director’s Cut.
Original message from 08/18/2022:
A single tweet and half the game world goes steep. The PC Game Pass Twitter account recently featured a profile picture of a landscape with an accompanying tweet “sometimes we just like a good landscape picture #newprofilepic”.
What is particularly exciting is the said image, which shows a foggy hilly landscape as we know it from Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding. A user took the trouble to post a comparison of the profile picture with the game’s landscape via Twitter. And the resemblance is unmistakable.
Now the question arises everywhere whether it can really be that the Playstation title comes into the PC Game Pass. In principle, not entirely impossible. On the one hand, the publishing rights for the PC version are held by 505 Games, on the other hand, with MLB The Show 21 and 22, Sony titles have already landed in the Game Pass.
But it can also just as well be that Microsoft and duly leads on the slippery slope. Hellblade 2, for example, has quite similar landscapes up its sleeve with its setting in Iceland. And the planetary worlds of Starfield could easily include a foggy hilly landscape. However, the question then arises as to why the image was only posted to the PC Game Pass account and not to the Xbox Game Pass account as well.
It’s exciting and we’ll keep an eye on it.
