After Death Stranding was initially reserved exclusively for the PlayStation for a long time, a PC implementation also appeared – and this is now surprisingly coming to the Xbox Game Pass. Now it turns out that Sony wasn’t actually involved in that regard.
A title shaped by Sony that is not even available on the Xbox, suddenly at least in the PC Game Pass and thus in an offer from Microsoft? This circumstance recently caused some astonishment, but it actually happens like this with Death Stranding: From tomorrow, August 23, you will find the title created by Hideo Kojima and his development studio in Microsoft subscription format. So are Sony and Microsoft working together now? In the end maybe even more often? Apparently that can’t be the question for a long time!
As it turns out, Sony had no hand in the decision to include Death Stranding in Microsoft’s PC Game Pass. The company itself confirmed this in a statement PushSquare.
“All things related to the PC release of Death Stranding are managed by Kojima Productions and 505 Games. Sony is not involved in this promotion in any way,” said Sony.
Although Sony owns the rights to Death Stranding and has also financed the development of the game for the initially PlayStation-exclusive release, the company’s hands seem to be somewhat tied when it comes to the PC implementation. So there may be different licensing agreements in relation to the platforms, although there is still no talk of an Xbox version of the title. Nevertheless: The fact that Death Stranding now appears in the PC Game Pass should only please Sony to a limited extent.
The action could also be an outflow of the newly entered cooperation between Kojima Productions and Microsoft. The developer studio is now working with Xbox Game Studios to apply the powerful cloud technology in a new title. It is not yet officially clear what this is and whether it will be reserved exclusively for the Xbox.
