The first season of Delicious in Dungeon finally came to an end today (24 episodes in total), but Trigger has just confirmed that a second season is in the works, so rejoice!
Originally titled Dungeon Rice, the anime has become a huge success in recent months for its combination of lighthearted moments and intense plot, all delivered through some of the most definitive and charming fantasy characters we’ve seen in recent memory. In fact, many of the work’s new fans have jumped straight into the 14 volumes of Ryóko Kui’s manga, which ran from 2014 to 2023.

Whether you choose not to spoil the story ahead or have already read the entire comic series, the news that Season 2 is getting underway is great news. We’ll likely have to wait more than a year (or even two) before we can return to the mysterious dungeon and see what this colorful group of adventurers gets up to next, so perhaps we can expect some video game news?
There’s still very little known about season 2, but avid manga readers now know where season 1 ends, and can therefore make a relatively accurate guess as to how much ground season 2 could cover if the anime sticks to a similar number of episodes. Season 1 was incredibly long, with the entire run lasting half a year, so if Trigger is allowed to be as delicious as season 1, another lengthy set of episodes could mean we’ve got a long wait ahead of us.
Part of Delicious in Dungeon’s success this year is due to the fact that so many geeks/nerds are currently into tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons, Baldur’s Gate 3, and anything similar. The anime was like a bolt of lightning at the right time. Hopefully Dragon Age: Guardians of the Veil can capture some of that fiery energy and thirst for adventure fantasy, too.
