After some delays, the Delta Force: Eagle Alpha has officially launched in the West for PC. Older versions of the game have been available in Asia for a while, but this is the first time Western gamers have been able to play it.

Well, those who are lucky enough to be invited, anyway. That’s because, while this is an open beta, it’s still invite-only. You can certainly put your name in, but you’re not guaranteed access.

There are at least a few limited ways to get into the Hawk Ops alpha on PC right now, and you can register your interest on the official website or on Steam. While the game is/will be available on Steam, you can grab it directly from its website – assuming you get an invite.

The third way to gain access is likely how most players will play the game, which is by chasing item drops on Twitch. Many of the participating streamers are currently live streaming the game, and it’s been responsible for pushing Hawk Ops to the front page of Twitch, with over 50,000 viewers watching as of this writing.

If you watch any of these episodes for an hour or more, you’ll receive a message on Twitch containing an access key. To claim your key, you’ll also need to create a Level Infinite account (if you don’t already have one) and connect it to your Twitch account. You know the drill.

Unfortunately, it looks like these invites are not going out as planned. Many players are reporting that they watched over 60 minutes of Drops live streams without receiving their keys. This is likely due to increased demand, as invites for popular games are often delayed.

Impressions from those who have been able to get their hands on the game have been fairly positive so far, with many praising the game’s gunplay and action, satisfying calls for support (like this devastating guided missile), and uncanny similarities to Battlefield.

That being said, Hawk Ops does have unmarked AI bots, which many hardcore players don’t like. There’s also a weird limitation once you enter a match: you can’t edit your loadout mid-match – although you can save multiple loadouts before a match.

However, it’s worth noting that Twitch Drops are released in batches on specific dates. Check out this blog post for more information.
