Denis Villeneuve Only Made Three Dune Movies

Denis, Dune, Movies, Villeneuve

We’ll be getting more and more comments about the future ahead of Dune: Part II’s release next month, but director Denis Villeneuve may be wrapping up the series soon.

Dune fever ahead of the 2021 sequel to the hit film has become so big that even the infamous David Lynch-directed 1984 adaptation is set to return to theaters.Of course, there are rumors that Denis Villeneuve will also adapt Dune Messiah (the second book in the series) after completing the two-parter, and he even confirmed last year that he had “put the words on paper” on”, so it looks like a problem when replace if.

While Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are still bullish on the Dune IP after it releases on HBO Max in 2021 after strong enough theatrical performances, Villeneuve is hesitant about his plans. Firmly, this doesn’t mean directing more than three films himself. He recently told Time magazine: “‘Dune Messiah’ should be the last ‘Dune’ movie for me.”

This isn’t surprising, as the filmmaker hasn’t shown much interest in becoming a recurring franchise director rather than jumping between very different projects. Now, He is committed to directing a massive historical epic about Cleopatra as well as a long-running adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke’s classic novel Meeting Rama. At this point, even Dune Messiah is no longer a priority.

But of course, if the second installment does well and wins critical acclaim again, he might be forced to speed up the trilogy instead of the aforementioned films. Still, it’s nice to see him actively trying to avoid overdoing the spices. Other directors and writers may come on board later if they’re brave enough to tackle more esoteric fiction.

Will Villeneuve stay? in any capacity The messiah status of the past may not affect Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ ambitious plans for the Dune IP, starting with the Dune: Prophecy series launching on Max this year.
