Since June 30, 2022, the yellow Minions and the incorrigible Gru have been up to mischief again in German cinemas – in the latest part of the “Minions – In Search of the Mini-Boss” series. The franchise, meanwhile, began in 2010 with Despicable Me.

“Despicable Me” follows super villain Gru and his plan to steal the moon. At the same time, in the first film, Gru takes in the 3 little orphans Margo, Edith and Agnes and eventually adopts them.
In Despicable Me 2, Gru meets and falls in love with agent Lucy Wilde. At the end of the film they get married.
The Minions’ huge popularity led to them being given their own spin-off prequel film. “Minions” revolves around their quest for a new boss to follow.
Then “Despicable Me 3” was released, in which Gru’s brother Dru plays an important role.
And most recently, the 2nd prequel film “Minions – In Search of the Mini-Boss” was released before “I – Despicable Me 4” is expected to hit the cinemas in 2024.

However, we recommend that you watch the “Minions” and “Despicable Me” films in chronological order.
Then you start with “Minions”, the main action of which takes place in 1968 – although some events of the film take place billions of years ago, because the Minions are almost as old as the earth itself.
At the end of the first prequel, the Minions then meet an 8-year-old Gru.
“Minions – In Search of the Mini-Boss” then plays in the year 1975. The Minions work for their almost 12-year-old mini-boss Gru, who has yet to prove himself as a super villain and finds a mentor in Knucklecracker.
About 36 years later, the Despicable Me series begins and Gru adopts Margo, Edith, and Agnes. The 3 “I – Simply Despicable” films build on each other about a year apart in terms of content.
