News JVTech Despite falling prices, Ultra Rare NFT from the CryptoPunks collection is selling for a fortune
Although the NFT market is not in great shape, the collection of cryptopunks continues to set sales records. One of the rarest NFTs in the collection sold for a fortune yesterday.
CryptoPunk 2066 was sold for more than one million dollars
While the NFT market is going through a complicated time right now, the Cryptopunks collection seems unaware of the crisis.
This Saturday, December 31st, a very rare NFT from the CryptoPunks collection was sold for 1155 ETH to a certain Nobody_vault, an anonymous collector of the Opensea exchange platform. This exceptional transaction represents the “modest” sum of 1.2 million dollars at current prices…
As a reminder, the minimum price for a cryptopunk is currently 64 Ether, which is around $71,000. The mysterious buyer therefore paid almost 18x the price to get his famous NFT Cryptopunk.
Unsurprisingly, this one has an extremely rare feature. The coveted CryptoPunk #2066 is part of the NFT collection with the Zombie attribute. These NFTs are highly sought after by collectors and are ranked 88th out of the 10,000 Cryptopunk NFTs.
This new transaction is therefore included in the table of sales records for NFT “Zombie” Cryptopunks, alongside:
- CryptoPunk #8857 sold for 2000 ETH
- CryptoPunk #7252 sold for 1600 ETH
- CryptoPunk #6275 sold for 1,319 ETH
Why Cryptopunks Keep Breaking Sales Records
First of all, it is important to remember that the collection is the pioneer of the NFT sector. Digital punk characters developed by Larva Labs in 2017 launched the phenomenon of NFT avatars on Ethereum. The 10,000 Cryptopunks, with their unique characteristics, were quickly adopted by celebrities, greatly contributing to their popularity and increased value.
Appreciated by collectors, cryptopunks are now considered real virtual works, unlike other collections. While many collections promise benefits and privileges to the owners of their NFTs, cryptopunks have nothing to offer other than their pixels.
Therefore, while several collections have struggled to sell during this time, the collection acquired by YugaLabs is still gaining followers.
