Due to the long gap between Dragon Age: Inquisition and Veilguard, there was always concern that the two titles might not be related, but BioWare always made sure that they were.
It’s been a bit of a strange decade for BioWare. Following the critically acclaimed Dragon Age: Inquisition, the company released just two games, the mediocre Mass Effect: Andromeda and the even worse Anthem. Given the big push for live-service games in the late 2010s, the second game was likely a misstep in the top-down push for live-service games. And now, sometime this year, the beloved developer is finally releasing a new Dragon Age game, Keepers of the Veil. So it’s understandable if you’re a bit apprehensive about this as a fan, especially if the sequel will pick up where Inquisition and its DLC left off.

Thankfully, in an interview with Edge Magazine (via GamesRadar), director John Epler made it clear that The Veilguard will continue the story of Inquisition. “The world exists because of Solas,” Epler said. “He shaped the world because of the kind of character he is. To me, that’s what makes Dragon Age so interesting. Everything goes back to a guy who, on some level, thought he was doing the right thing.”
In fact, Solas is so important to the future of Thedas that Epler says the next Dragon Age game after Inquisition will always be centered around the character. “We set that up at the end of Trespasser. We’re not saying, ‘Now let’s go somewhere completely different.’ We want to deliver on that promise.”
Well, there’s nothing to worry about! You also don’t have to worry about BioWare repeating Anthem’s mistake and adding multiplayer, as it has already decided not to add multiplayer to The Veilguard. Now, if only we could get a release date… At least we know it’s coming out in October at the earliest.
