Bungie has presented a roadmap for the coming year called Codename Frontiers, which also includes two major expansions.
With Codename Frontiers, Bungie has now presented the further roadmap for the long-running sci-fi epic Destiny 2 in the near future. In the coming year 2025, two major expansions for the game will be released. In addition, Codename Frontiers also includes four free content updates and more.
On the official blog, the creators have presented the next chapter of the game, which will initially bring the expansion “Apollo” in summer 2025. The second add-on is called “Behemoth” and will be released in winter 2025. Both expansions are expected to be medium-sized, partly because larger add-ons such as “The Final Shape” take up too much of the development process overall. The switch to two medium-sized expansions is intended to free up resources and at the same time open up the opportunity to explore and try out new formats.
According to Game Director Tyson Green, the current three-episode structure will be further developed so that in the future there will be four major content updates per year – a new update every three months. Within these updates there are seasons and episodes with new activities, rewards, events and other features.
Changes to the core of the game will also be made, as Bungie has come to the realization that Destiny 2 is currently simply too complex. To simplify access, the UI will be modernized so that individual activities within the game can also be found more easily.
Narrative Director Alison Lührs finally added that the first expansion, “Apollo,” will be rather non-linear and will focus on the characters. In contrast to the linear “The Final Shape,” you will be able to choose between missions and activities and do not have to complete them in a specific order.
