Destiny 2 Guardian Games is back once again, and with it comes an annual boost in class loyalty, healthy competition, and cheeky banter. Announced this week in a Bungie blog post on April 28, the limited-time event will be available to all Destiny 2 players on The Tower starting May 3.
For those unaware, the Guardian Games is an annual event that separates players by class. During the event period, certain events will offer tokens that can be donated at the tower to be added to the community-wide leaderboard. Of course, this allows players to gain access to a range of exclusive items, but it also increases the overall class score. By the end of the event, a class will be crowned champion and a statue will be erected inside the tower for the rest of the year.
As you can imagine, the news has led to class tribalism popping up in community hubs like the official reddit. For now, many are giddy about the competition that will take root in the community. However, as the Titans’ popularity has declined over the past 12 months, some are more alarmed at the current class’s popularity. Thankfully, the less-represented factions got a boost during the Guardian Games, so no matter what kind of player you are, it’ll stay enjoyable.
In fact, that seems to be the theme of this year’s event. A new system is coming to the Guardian Games event, so you can earn rewards regardless of your play style. This is detailed in the official blog post, “Strike Scoring, which only affects playtime on Guardian Games playlists. Additionally, we have Strike Medals, which are designed to reward players for accomplishing some impressive feats, such as using games like Shatter Such a beautiful little combat jig takes out a large number of enemies.”
“It should also help players who feel like they’re matched with other players who just pass the strike. Why rush a pass when you can get some extra points by ham and showing the bad guys what’s going on?”
Finally, this year we’ll have a collection of super cool outfits for each class, each in their own unique color, b ased on the class. The undisputed winner in this category has to be Warlock, as they get their hands on Tron-style cosmetics with a sleek black and yellow aesthetic.
