Tonight Bungie is kicking off the big add-on Destiny 2: The Witch Queen. At the same time, the new season of the Risen starts.
With The Witch Queen, Bungie heralds the latest and darkest chapter in Destiny 2 history yet. The add-on is the first part of the final trilogy of the “Light and Darkness” saga, in which you gain many new skills, but you also have to face extraordinary challenges.
While the first content and features are immediately available with the launch of the expansion, the first raid of the add-on will not go live until March 5th at 7:00 p.m. “The Student’s Oath” is designed for six players and is then the focus of a global competition right from the start. The first squad to complete the raid will receive the exclusive World First title belt.
The expansion also includes the start of the “Season of the Risen”. This begins today, February 22nd, and again has all sorts of new season ranks ready for you. This time, you work with the Cabal Empress Caiatl to thwart Savathun’s plans. The contents of the new season are officially stated as follows:
- Psi Ops Battlegrounds: Guardians track down and apprehend high-ranking lieutenants of the Radiant Host across the solar system. With the help of Caiatl’s best psions, players enter the spirit room, a place where thoughts about reality reveal themselves. Players must battle through the Horde and defeat Savathûn’s lieutenants to triumph.
- Seasonal Artifact – Synaptic Spear: Players use the spear’s light suppression, powered by Caiatl’s technology, to penetrate the Hive Guardians’ minds and sever their connection to the Light. As the spear level increases, they gain access to powerful new mods and can further customize their playstyle.
- Exotic Quest: Guardians investigate anti-Caiatl psionic propaganda spread from a bunker on Mars, unlocking the Dead Messenger Exotic Grenade Launcher. This waveform breechloading grenade launcher creates a series of three shockwaves and can rotate between different elemental damage types while reloading, similar to other exotics such as Hard Light and Borealis.
Destiny 2 is free to play and already includes many of the new features coming with Season of Risen, including the major Focused Void 3.0 update and the Guardian Games 2022 event. Season Pass owners have access to all activities with additional rewards and instant unlocks:
- New weekly mission
- Instantly Unlocked Exotic Machine Gun: Grand Overture.
- Unlocks one universal seasonal ornament set per class.
- Bonus XP, Exotic Engrams and more
Together with the add-on “The Witch Queen” Destiny 2 also starts the Season of the Risen.
