Destiny 2 finally abolishes its paid loot boxes. In a recent blog post, Luke Smith, director of Destiny 2, said that the so-called Shiny Engrams (in English they are called "Bright Engrams") can no longer be bought when the next season starts.
What are Bright Engrams? These loot boxes can be purchased in Destiny for the real money currency silver, such a box costs the equivalent of just under 2 euros. For the money you get cosmetic items like armor mods or emotes.
But this will soon be over, because in the future you can use these engrams no longer buy, just play for free (for example via the paid Season Pass). So the boxes don't completely disappear from Destiny, but as loot boxes approved for purchase, they won't be available in the future. Luke Smith also gives a very plausible reason for this decision in the blog post:
"We want players to know what it costs before they buy it. The Glossy Engrams don't live up to that claim, so we're no longer going to offer them in the Eververse Store."
Real money shop remains in Destiny 2
However, microtransactions per se are preserved in Destiny 2, because with the real money currency silver, all possible items, armor sets, skins and so on can still be bought in the store. However, soon you will no longer buy any surprises, but then you will know exactly what you are spending your money on.
When does Destiny 2 Season 10 start? The next season of the loot shooter does not yet have an official release date, but season 9 should end on March 9. The fee-based loot boxes should be history in just a few weeks.
