so, Destiny 2The Final Shape expansion for Elden Ring is coming to Steam. It’ll bring some pretty big changes when it officially launches on June 4, but before then, Bungie decided to give us an idea of how much space it’ll take to install. Through Steam, for the game and the expansion, you can expect to be looking at… uh… about five times the size of the Elden Ring install package.
Yes. Now, while you’re gasping for air, let me say something else. In the same post that revealed the number, Bungie acknowledged that it accidentally launched the expansion on its streaming service for PS5 the other day. “A small number of players were able to play portions of the campaign, access the collection, and other bonus information for Final Form and Echoes,” it wrote. “We recommend being extremely careful on social media over the next few days to avoid spoilers.”

OK, that’s the problem. Now here’s the big number – 299.70 GB on Steam, of which 144.20 GB is for the base installation of Destiny 2, and 155.50 GB is required with the pre-installed expansion pack. That’s nearly 300 GB in total, which is exactly five times the 60 GB required to install the base version of Elden Ring on that platform.
That being said, it’s probably important to note the “upper” in Destiny numbers, as they mean there’s a good chance you’ll end up with numbers lower than those caps, but that doesn’t make the idea that things could inflate to those levels any less surprising.
If you’re curious, for games and expansion packs on the Epic Games Store for PC, you’re looking at around 279.66 GB of space, which is almost as big as Steam’s number, while the numbers for console players – fortunately for those who have 15 external hard drives to plug in – are much lower. 165.82 GB is the value for Xbox Series X/S, and 143.81 GB is the value for PS5.
The biggest difference between these games and the PC versions seems to be that they don’t require any space at all outside of your existing Destiny 2 installation to facilitate update preloading, and the PS4 is in the same league as the non-console platforms in this regard, despite requiring a paltry 18.61 GB of additional space for the update.
Yeah, maybe it’s best to temporarily abandon some of the other big games you’re not playing right now, and reinstall them once you’ve completed the process of getting “Final Shape”.
