Despite the recent layoffs at Bungie, work on a certain new Destiny game is said to continue. At least that’s what a leaker who has been reliable in the past says.
Bungie also recently made cuts and several employees were laid off. As a result, there was also plenty of speculation that new projects might have been scrapped – but one particular game is said to still be in the works.
In this case, it refers to a mobile game for the sci-fi franchise Destiny, which is still to be developed under the name Destiny Rising. Previously, there were rumors that this as yet unannounced game might have been canceled.
According to reliable insider Karakasis, this is not the case, as Bungie is still planning to bring the Destiny experience to mobile devices. Development work on the spin-off will continue and there is no question of it being stopped. Bungie is reportedly continuing to cooperate with the Chinese studio NetEase for Destiny Rising.
In July, Bungie announced a major round of layoffs; it was the second such wave of layoffs within a year. A number of veterans who had been with Bungie since the early days and had already worked on Halo: Reach were also affected. However, there are still job advertisements for certain positions in the Sony-owned studio – an indicator that unannounced projects are being pushed forward. The mobile spin-off of Destiny too? We will of course keep you updated on this!
