Almost all independent testers agree. In 2021, the C1 is undoubtedly one of the best TVs out there. While it has long sold for around $1500, this little gem is currently on sale on Rue du Commerce for only $1049, a historic price. The only time we saw cheaper was on Black Friday.

The reason for this enormous price drop? The arrival of the 2022 model, which will be released in a few weeks. To make room, resellers are starting to clear their inventory. This might be the last time you see such a good cheap TV. For this reason, we recommend that you do not wait for the upcoming French Days to make your purchase. As the name suggests, the LG 55 C1 has a screen of 55 inches, or 139 cm diagonally. Coming from an old Full HD TV, this rather large size will make you look weird. Since the advent of 4K TVs, this has become a standard format that’s easy to get used to (and no, it doesn’t take more than 2 meters for optimal distance, we lied).

OLED technology is quite new and particularly complex to manufacture. Until Samsung’s recent entry into the race, LG was almost always the only manufacturer in the world capable of mass-producing large OLED screens. There have always been LG panels on TVs from Panasonic, Sony or Philips when it comes to OLED. The Korean brand is therefore known as the best for large format OLED.

As a reminder, OLED technology has the particularity of being able to do without backlight diodes, allowing for a literally infinite contrast. For us, the difference between a classic OLED and LED screen is even more important than that between a Full HD screen and a 4K screen.

The C1 also stands out for the performance of its AI, which can improve sound and picture thanks to upscaling. Better still, this AI makes it possible to compensate for OLED’s biggest flaw: the risk of “burning” the screen.

Basically, if a living element remains in a fixed location on an OLED screen for tens of hours, there is a non-zero chance that that screen will remain imprinted with a TV channel logo or a bar of very red life. On the C1 it’s almost impossible. The AI ​​anticipates danger by constantly alternating the pixels displayed on the screen. It’s invisible to the naked eye and that’s what makes the difference.

LG also has a critically acclaimed “operating system”. Controlled by the MagicRemote, the “Wii joystick” remote control, WebOS is extremely fluid, ergonomic and pleasant to use. Applications such as Twitch, YouTube, Disney+, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video or Molotov are perfectly optimized there.
