For fans, the alternating reports and denials about Diablo 2 Remaster are an emotional pool. Current information gives hope again.
The Activision studio Vicarious Visions, which was already responsible for the crash bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, is now said to be working on the Diablo 2 remaster. Why is this information more important this time than before? The report comes from the French gaming portal Actu Gaming, more precisely from an editor who provided correct information about Diablo 4, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands and Overwatch 2 before the official announcement during BlizzCon 2019.
And although the rumors have persisted for a long time, the current report is surprising. Only half a year ago we reported that a remaster for Diablo 2 is almost impossible because the complete source code of the game and numerous assets have been lost (for news: Diablo 2: Therefore there will probably never be a remaster). Of course, this does not rule out a completely new development, however complex it may be.
But given the long time that will pass before the release of Diablo 4 and the resentment of the mobile branch Diablo Immortal, which is still rumbling in the fan base, and Blizzard's handling of Hong Kong critics, it would not be surprising if the highly praised Diablo 2 in the room is put in order to smooth the waves a little.
