The next big moment for Diablo IV was the release of the game’s first season, “Season of Evil.” In addition to the new narrative questline following the end of the campaign, Season of Viciousness introduces a massive new mechanic, a new boss, new items, and more.
But it also brought the first battle pass for the mainline Diablo game. With the controversy over needing to create a new character to experience seasonal content now (mostly) behind us, interest has shifted to how Blizzard plans to structure the battle pass, and the cadence it expects players to experience.
The developer has repeatedly stressed that it wants casual players to actually unlock all levels of the Battle Pass, and believes the 12-week season will provide enough time for players of all styles to experience it.
Given the enormous grind required in Diablo IV after reaching level 50, many players feared that a similar level of dedication would be expected from Blizzard. The good news is that it doesn’t take you that long to unlock every item on the battle pass.
Speaking to Forbes, Blizzard confirmed that you’ll also be able to complete the Battle Pass before the season ends without being at or near level 100. The lack of time-limited content helps with this, so you can go at your own pace.
Game director Joe Shely explained: “We want to make sure that players who play at different levels of intensity are still able to complete the battle pass.” It stands to reason that playing Diablo 4 for a few hours a week should be enough to get everything.
Considering everyone will be starting from scratch when the season starts, this is good news. That said, if you’re playing the game right now, there are a few things you should be doing before the season of Viciousness kicks off with a massive power boost.
The new season will arrive in the game on July 20th, following the release of the previous major patch on July 18th.
