The quarterly updates have always delivered a lot of exciting news about the highly anticipated action role-playing game Diablo 4. On December 15, 2022, Blizzard released the fourth quarter update, this time as a live stream instead of a blog post. But many fans didn’t like the 50-minute broadcast at all.
Incidentally, we were recently able to play Diablo 4 ourselves for the first time. You can read what is already great and what still worries us in Fabiano’s big preview:

Played for a week: great. Not perfect.
Blizzard revealed this in the quarterly update
The stream you can watch if interested Also watch it in full on YouTube once again reveals some exciting details. We summarize the most important points for you here:
- Battle Pass: The paid Battle Pass should cost ten US dollars and provide tons of cosmetic items for your characters. To get all the rewards, you need to invest about 75 hours of gameplay. Each Battle Pass will run for three months. There will also be various gameplay boosts in the Battle Pass, but these can all be unlocked with the free Battle Pass.
- Seasons: The first season should only start a few weeks after the release of Diablo 4, so that all players have an equal chance to play at the top of the newly announced ladder leaderboards.
- Story: The developers revealed that the Horadrim will play a major role in Diablo 4’s story. Fabiano takes a closer look at one of these Horadrim, which is considered the new Deckard Cain:

We finally know who the mystery man is
- Collector’s Box: The included candle is not wax, but a plastic electric candle that turns on and off with a button on the side. The fact that the game is not included in this collector’s edition and must be purchased separately digitally has also been confirmed.
- code of power: In each of the 120+ dungeons in Diablo 4, you can unlock a Legendary Aspect that will be stored in your Code of Power. You can then use this in crafting to upgrade rare items to legendary items with appropriate properties. The codex entries are unlocked for all characters, you do not have to complete all dungeons again with all characters.
The new cinematic trailer from this year’s Game Awards was also shown several times:

Fans are disappointed with the quarterly update
Even though there was a lot of interesting information about Diablo 4, many fans were disappointed with the quarterly update. While past blog posts have often offered big new announcements and in-depth details, such as the Necromancer classmany fans had the feeling of seeing a shopping channel à la QVC during the current live stream.
This is what fans write on Reddit the following:
Is this a sales pitch? It’s not about the game at all. It’s all about the models you spend money on.
– FocusOkay, so they talked for 20 minutes and did nothing but sell the more expensive editions and collectibles. Will they be talking about the game or is this a 30 minute commercial I’m watching?
– PanthakeeImagine just talking about all the things you can buy. I guess the viewers are their stakeholders.
The criticism is not unfounded: Of the approximately 50 minutes, the developers talked about the Collector’s Box for more than 30 minutes, praised the included art book, demonstrated the electric candle and showed mounts and other goodies from the Ultimate Edition. This was followed by an extensive digression on the subject of Battle Pass, which, as is well known, will also cost additional money.
