Diablo 4 stumbles, Path of Exile 2 and Last Epoch saw off the throne – with Jessirocks

As soon as Diablo 4 started Season 3, the fan forums were glowing again. Because the “season of the construct” has by no means started without problems. The trap-filled vaults inspired by Path of Exile were initially tough and frustrating. Blizzard reacted quickly, submitted a game flow patch – and thereby undermined its own gameplay idea. Since then, the traps simply don’t matter; monsters are just happily being chopped up in the vault.

This reveals two insights: On the one hand, Blizzard – quite rightly – sees maintaining the excellent game flow as Diablo 4’s core strength. In this respect, the change makes perfect sense. On the other hand, it seems haphazard: If the flow of the game is so important, why do you include the traps at all? Or why are new farming materials suddenly introduced in the middle of the season, which pose unexpected hurdles, especially for casual players?

You might think that Blizzard has never made an action role-playing game before. Luckily, they will soon have new competition that could put pressure on them.

GameStar Talk: All videos and podcasts at a glance

Micha discusses the good ideas and innovations that Path of Exile 2 and Last Epoch – which will finally launch in version 1.0 on February 21st – have Twitch-Streamer and YouTuber Jessirocks, who had to criticize Diablo 4 again after the positive second season.

And the competition doesn’t sleep: While Path of Exile 2 primarily refines its gameplay and makes Micha’s eyes shine with the game flow demonstrated in videos, Lost Epoch scores with a diverse character system including mastery classes and individual talent trees for each skill. Yes, for every skill.

Also taking part in our discussion – not physically, but in the form of a written statement – is our Diablo expert Benedict Grothaus from MeinMMOwho was also initially critical of the third season of Diablo 4, but after the quick adjustments said: Well done, Blizzard!

Why exactly, where despite all the criticism, Diablo 4 is also noted as having a positive development, and how Path of Exile 2 and Last Epoch could ultimately even help Blizzard – we discuss this in the video above and of course here in the podcast:
