The upcoming release of Diablo IV obviously has the Blizzard teams in its grip, but the predecessor is still being played. What’s next for Diablo III?
Diablo IV starts on June 6th and it is safe to assume that the majority of fans will already be at the starting line with their axes sharpened. But that doesn’t change anything, or only a little, in the fact that the predecessor is still very popular. This of course raises the question of whether and how Diablo III will continue in the future, and General Manager Rod Fergusson has an answer.
Like the well-known fansite Wowhead reports, Fergusson spoke out on the subject in a recent interview and had some good and some bad news for Diablo III fans. So the upcoming season 29 of Diablo III does indeed have a season-specific theme again, but not to the same extent as the previous season 28. So don’t get your expectations too high.
From Season 30 onwards, however, it gets thinner. According to Fergusson, players will then have to reckon with repetitive content, i.e. previous seasons are more or less recycled. Accordingly, features and rewards include a colorful mix of seasons that have already been played.
The reason should of course be clear: after the launch of Diablo IV, the developers put their resources fully into the new game, which is supposed to offer significantly more life service elements than Diablo III. In addition, Blizzard has already announced in a recent video about the endgame content of Diablo IV that the same should be further expanded. And one can probably assume that the number of players in Diablo III will drop significantly after the release of the successor anyway.
