The Xbox team’s highly anticipated business update had positive news for Game Pass subscribers. Diablo IV now has a launch date in the game subscription and ends up there as the first game from Activision Blizzard.
After Microsoft completed its takeover of Activision Blizzard, it was eagerly awaited when the publisher’s first games would be available in the popular Xbox Game Pass game subscription. So far things have remained quiet in this regard, but the Xbox team’s business update yesterday evening made an initial announcement.
Somewhat surprisingly, it is the current action RPG Diablo IV – and not older titles from Activision Blizzard – that is the first from the publisher’s range of games to join the Xbox Game Pass. If you haven’t bought the Blizzard Entertainment title yet, you only have to wait a few weeks to play it in Game Pass without making an additional investment.
From March 28, 2024, Diablo IV will be available on Xbox Game Pass, which, according to current information, has around 34 million subscribers. They can then play the game on both the PC and Xbox consoles with a subscription. Furthermore, the title is only supposed to be the beginning of Activision Blizzard games in Game Pass, so we can expect further announcements in the near future.
Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion last October after months of negotiations with antitrust authorities around the world – and with it also well-known game brands such as Call of Duty, WarCraft, Overwatch and Diablo. Even back then, it was emphasized that the investment was viewed as long-term and that games were not to be expected in Game Pass right from the start – it ultimately took around half a year for that.
Diablo IV was originally released on June 6, 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. Later this year, the first major expansion, “Vessel of Hatred,” will be released with a brand new class.
