Ubisoft’s classic driving game series Driver was originally going to be filmed as a live-action TV series, but it seems to have been cancelled.
My knowledge of the Cars series is very limited, with the only game I’ve played being San Francisco, the latest and currently final installment, though that game seems a bit different due to its mechanics that allow you to teleport into any car. To be honest, unless you’re adapting that specific game, I’m not sure why you’d want to adapt a game series that’s all about cool car chases, but in 2021 Ubisoft announced that a TV show based on the games was coming. However, in a new report from Game File, it appears that Ubisoft has quietly canceled the show.

This isn’t surprising, given that there’s been no news since the announcement, and besides, how appealing is a show based on a series that hasn’t had a new game in over a decade? On top of that, Binge, the streaming service aimed at gamers (yes, really) that was originally intended to produce the show, has also been shut down, so it’s a shame for gamers who feel streaming doesn’t satisfy them enough? I guess? People who think this is a good idea might also like Quibi.

On a positive note, it’s not all bad news for all 17 of you Go Fighting fans – Ubisoft did promise that despite Binge’s hiatus and the show’s cancellation, it’s “actively working on other exciting projects related to the series.” That’s not exactly new games given the rather awkward and vague wording, but hey, a win is a win, right? Still, even with Go Fighting in limbo, the Watch Dogs movie is finally filming after a long stint in development hell, so perhaps Ubisoft will be able to tap into all that adaptation money that seems to be dominating Hollywood and the gaming industry right now.
