Due to the corona virus, numerous public events such as the E3 are currently being canceled. In many places, the population is encouraged to stay at home and avoid large crowds. The Discord team is now responding to this by their Go-Live screen sharing system for a temporary update: The developers explain their decision on Twitter as follows:
An update from us regarding COVID-19: pic.twitter.com/gKUXvvsqrs
– Discord (@discordapp) March 11, 2020
"With regard to COVID-19, we are temporarily increasing the limit for Go-live streaming and screen sharing from 10 to 50 people for the next months. We know that many of you around the world are currently using Discord to keep in touch and do daily chores, from class to work from home.
We want to help make your world a little less stressful. We will maintain this limit when it is most needed. Please be patient with us because streams can cause performance issues with a large number of people. "
The team did not say how long this temporary expansion would be available. However, it will likely depend heavily on future developments and government policies on the virus.
The community reacted enthusiastically to the announcement. With numerous tweets, followers expressed their joy at Discord's reaction:
Cool.
I've never really used this but in light of all the shutdowns and cancellations its refreshing to see a company find a way to instead give back more.
Thank you!

"Cool. I never used the feature, but when all the cancellations and quarantines are given, it's refreshing to see how a company finds a way to return something good."
Just about a month ago, Discord deleted some features like the launch function. The popular Chatt platform cited lack of interest as the reason. Discord had already discontinued its Discord Nitro streaming service in 2019 due to low demand.
