Discord: Popular Service Not Selling To Microsoft (Report)

Discord, Microsoft, popular, Report, selling, service

The Discord social service is particularly popular among gamers. That made it interesting for Microsoft too, but discussions about a possible purchase are said to have now been discontinued.

We reported some time ago that Microsoft is said to have started talks to acquire Discord. About a month later, the topic doesn’t seem to be any more. According to a new report, Discord should no longer have any interest in being bought out.

Like the renowned one Wall Street Journal announces, Discord will not be sold – although the company apparently had several lucrative offers at the same time. This also includes the purchase offer from Microsoft discussed at the beginning. Corresponding discussions have been put on hold for the moment, but could possibly be resumed at some point in the future. For the moment, however, selling is not an issue.

According to the Wall Street Journal had at least three competitors expressed interest in buying a Discord; Microsoft would have had to deal with other competition either way. Discord is currently doing very well on its own and that’s why the company is also planning to remain truly independent for the foreseeable future. For Discord fans nothing will change in the current usage situation for the time being.

Discord currently has more than 140 million monthly active users.
