A planned sequel?
While Shōgun was intended as a miniseries, two additional seasons have just been confirmed in light of its critical and commercial success.
Certainly one of Disney+’s great weapons. From James Clavell’s bestseller, it takes us to the heart of feudal Japan in 1600. Shipwrecked on these shores torn by civil war, English pilot John Blackthorne becomes an unexpected pawn in the power game. In these historic lands, the fates of three characters intersect: John Blackthorne, the lost stranger, Toranaga, a ruthless warlord, and Mariko, a young woman torn between two worlds.
The series has long been compared to Game of Thrones by some critics for the quality of its plots. Brennan Klein wrote for Screen Rant in particular that it “Finally the first worthy replacement for Game of Thrones
“, when Phil Hornshaw of media game Gamespot explained: “dSince Game of Thrones ended in 2019, I’ve been craving some extensive medieval political intrigue. FX’s adaptation of James Clavell’s 1975 novel Shōgun delivers exactly what I wanted“. For several days, Shōgun even managed to achieve a perfect score of 100% on the Rotten Tomatoes platform.
