The message is hidden in a lengthy blog post on Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Season 2: Soon your progress in DMZ mode will be wiped. There was never any talk of such wipes before – and that now pisses off many players. Many already know the ritual from Escape From Tarkov, but nobody knew that DMZ also copies it from the large Extraction model.
We have all the important information for you: What exactly will be deleted? When is the progress gone? And what happens to your won weapons and blueprints?
You need to know that about the DMZ wipe
What are you losing? All keys, contraband weapons, and your faction mission progress will be erased. So you have to replenish your DMZ inventory first. According to the insider CharlieIntel, you also lose the possibly unlocked second slot for an insured weapon and have to play this slot again. After all, it should be faster than in Season 1.

When is the wipe coming? Your progress will be reset for Season 2, i.e. on February 15, 2023.
Is there a wipe every season? Nothing is officially known about this. But of course it is obvious that DMZ brings new content with each season update and flattens your progress beforehand so that everyone starts again from scratch and newcomers also have a chance.

The players’ reactions
Many DMZ players are frustrated and surprised by the announcement that was made so shortly before the season change. Even CoD experts like ModernWarzone express incomprehension on Twitter:
Wipes are okay if they’re necessary like in Escape From Tarkov. This looks like a wipe out of principle.
For example, in Escape From Tarkov there is an in-game economy that resets to zero every now and then. At some point, frequent players also collect a powerful arsenal that offers them great advantages over newcomers – but something like that is missing in DMZ. There are also no special unlockable skills that make experienced players superior, and the second insured weapon slot is more convenient than game-changing.
The streamer Marksman gets a lot of approval with this comment on Twitter:
Yes, I don’t know why they do that. You should continue to build it and not reset all my mission ranks. Doesn’t really make sense to me, but I won’t be replaying all the missions, so I’m probably done with DMZ.
Season 2 not only brings the reset, but also new content for DMZ, multiplayer and Warzone 2. And the changes for the Battle Royale sound like the opposite of the wipe, namely after the fulfillment of almost all important fan wishes:
