news culture DNA, Crunchyroll, Netflix, Wakanim: anime not to be missed in March 2022
While waiting for the month of April and its collection of spring novelties, there will still be plenty for anime fans to do in March. In particular, Netflix will welcome two new promising adaptations, Kotaro in Solo and Thermae Romae Novae, without forgetting the theatrical launch of Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
What’s new in March 2022
Kotaro solo
Kotaro solo (Kotaro Lives Alone) is an anime based on the comic manga by Mami Tsumura, which is according to Netflix “regarded by some as Japan’s most heartwarming manga”. We follow the story of Kotaro Sato, a rather unusual boy: at the age of four he moved into an apartment alone a residence where children are forbidden. There he meets his new neighbor Shin Karino, an unsuccessful and bankrupt mangaka. “Grown up and childlike at the same time, Kotaro begins to have an impact on those around him through his wisdom. This is the story of a four-year-old boy who is determined to stay strong until one day he can live with his parents
The adaptation is entrusted to the Liden Films studio, which worked on Tokyo Revengers, Tribe Nine, Berserk (2016), Terraformars and The Chronicles of Arslân. Tomoe Makino (Woodpecker Detective’s Office) is directing and Tomomi Kimura (Kochoki) is character design. The original manga was pre-published by Shogakukan in Big Comic Superior magazine in Japan and has not yet been published in our regions. It has already been adapted in the form of a live-action series, which was released on Japanese channel TV Asahi in April 2021.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (movie)
We step away from streaming platforms to talk about the biggest release of the month: that of Movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0 in French cinemas. That is a Progenitor of the shōnen phenomenon created by Gege Akutami. More precisely, the film is direct adapted from the work “Tokyo School of Exorcism”, a four-chapter manga first published in 2017. It tells the story of Yuta Okkutsu, a young man haunted by the ghost of his childhood friend who died in a tragic accident. A specter like no other as the little girl takes the form of a monstrous creature that does not hesitate to attack anyone who would attack her host. Then a familiar character from the base work appears: Satoru Gojo, professor at the School of Exorcism in Tokyo. The latter will offer Yuta to teach him how to master occult energy to deal with what haunts him.
Like the series, the film is produced by Studio MAPPA, which is also responsible for its work on Terror in Resonance, Kids on the Slope, Yuri!!! on Ice and the ultimate season of Attack on Titan. While waiting for the release of season 2, which will not happen until 2023, you can discover season 1 of Jujutsu Kaisen on Crunchyroll and Wakanim.
New Rome Baths
This is another rather atypical anime that will land on Netflix in March. New Rome Baths is the adaptation of the manga Thermae Romae by Mari Yamazaki. He’s putting on a show Lucius Modestus, architect of ancient Rome who specialized in the construction of baths, which is on the decline due to ideas that are considered worn out. Everything changes when he gets sucked down a drain and ends up… in a 21st century Japanese public bath. “Unknowing that he has traveled back in time, the architect is blown away by what he discovers, right down to the murals and the fruit-flavored milk. Back in ancient Rome, he’s enjoying what he’s learned on this extraordinary journey to improve the bathing experience and become a successful spa designer.”reads the official synopsis.
It is that Naz animation studio, at the origin of Gloomy the Naughty Grizzly, Infinite Dendrogram or even Id: Invaded, which is at work here. Mari Yamazaki herself participates in the series as the composer of the soundtrack. Note that a first anime adaptation was produced by studio DLE Inc in 2012 for a total of 3 episodes that you can find on ADN. With reference to Manga, it was published in France by Casterman Editions and has six volumes.
